East Midlands Branch Rally 2016

Being the host Branch at a Rally was a brand new experience to me, and something I had looked forward to for a long time. There was something very proud about representing your Branch on home turf, with an added tinge of nerves about the quality of my baking and the event as a whole, it was an exciting and busy day.

The East Midlands Branch Rally 2016 consisted of 50 different vehicles, displayed by type, and taking over a considerable area of the Denby Pottery Village carpark. The cars and vans on show represented a broad spectrum of Minors, expressing a variety of personalities from Hotrods and customs to restorations and purist originality. We were also lucky enough to be joined by a number of classic MG's, a Ford Anglia and a Vauxhall, adding some variety to a Minor dominated Rally.

Our venue of Denby Pottery Village was a place I'd never had the chance to visit before, but with shops, a restaurant, craft activities and cookery demonstrations there was plenty to see and do on site. There was no shortage of sweet treats on the cake stand, as the women of the Branch (myself included) had been baking furiously and donated their wares to raise money for Marie Curie. Our Tombola was also a great success, with the chance to win a vast array of prizes from wine, chocolates and luxury bath products to children's soft toys and the legendary cow kettle. We also held a silent auction for some extra special items donated. All the fundraising for Marie Curie was great fun and an even greater success.

The East Midlands Branch Rally was a triumph. With beautiful sunshine, a pleasant warmth, and many Minors to peruse, you couldn't wish for a more enjoyable way to spend a Sunday in September.

Huge thanks to the entire Branch for their hard work and contributions to making the Rally a success, to Marie Curie for supporting our fundraising at this event and especially to Brian and Alison Fletcher for working hard throughout the year to organise the Rally and ensure it was an event to be remembered.

Many thanks to everybody who came from far and wide with their Classics to be a part of our Rally. We hope to see you all again next year!

Alice Durose
